The morning dance of the Masculine and Feminine swans.

Whilst out on a walk this morning I found a spot to sit, with my legs over the side of the quay enjoying the surroundings and reading. I became aware of two swans speedily swimming towards me. The leading swan in particular caught my attention straight away and I felt an alert and an impulse to move slightly. It was very clear that the swan leading the way was the Masculine. He was direct, moving with purpose and absolutely knew where he was heading and leading himself and his partner. He penetrated the space, looking around, making sure all was clear for them both whilst remaining direct and sure in his action ahead. It was his single-focused assertion and the presence of this that jolted me, feeling to respect and do my part in the meeting of our worlds in that moment. The female meanwhile gracefully glided in, softly, simply Being, allowing in her movement; she was receiving whilst moving. Her presence didn’t have the same immediate feeling of penetrative purpose but a feeling of purpose in being as she was, receiving and opening in her softness within this space the Masculine was giving and providing; she felt safe.

Their clear focus was to nibble on the algae close to where I was sitting. I noticed that the male was finished first and was ready to move on. He vocalised it and called to his partner. She hadn’t finished and so he called a couple more times, she still continued to honour her needs until she was ready, he then came back to her while she finished, and then together they continued on. The male took lead and led himself and his counterpart onto their next location. Both energies were very different and yet complimentary. Their energies were palpable. The male felt dominating and he owned the space he opened up and held for them both. The female was able to be in her energy and soften in the safety he provided her, putting action in expression, tending to her needs in an allowing way because everything was taken care of in her immediate space and her partner was giving whilst she was in receiving. In her receiving, she was also giving and the Masculine receiving in-turn and in this they ‘danced’.

I loved being witness to this and it got me thinking as always, this time about the energy dynamics between the Masculine and the Feminine, they are so different and actually polarities of one another, yet compliment each other when in their natural opposites. The expressions of humans of course are far more complex and with our capacity to observe ourselves (!!) we obviously have far more layers that present when in our dance of the Masculine and Feminine within ourselves and with our partner.

The female isn’t a weaker counterpart and the male doesn’t have to be controlling, likewise, the Masculine doesn’t have to be submissive and the Feminine uptight and nagging… None of these feel comfortable for either energies because they represent imbalance. So, how do we meet in the middle within nature as it is… like the swans did so effortlessly? The Masculine has a sense of duty and a responsibility to be the protector and this is a serious role and of course when he is ‘working’ and serving; this is to be recognised and respected. The Masculine thrives. The female however has a job too, and when held and provided for fully she can then be seen fully in her ‘work’ and service… trusting and allowing for grace to be here in her receiving energy. She doesn’t have to take on the role of the male, she can serve in her Femininity, in her softness, in her Divine expression. The Feminine shines. It is in this that the two energies can then be seen, appreciated and held by each other in their complimentary dance together.

I am forever fascinated by these two Divine energies and will always be in awe of their dance into the natural Unity they are designed for. I would like to continue on this deepening of journeying into this dance and will leave this piece of writing here for now for contemplation and possible stirrings of further enquiry, with an intention to continue with future musings for as long as it arises in my reflections. Thank you for being here, in this moment, always, with Love.
